Sometimes a photographer's hunch is the best lead. I was finishing my day shooting photos for the San Francisco Examiner in 1998 when I decided to follow Payne Stewart for his final few holes. Low and behold he went on a birdie run and made this signature pose of jubilation. He came in second that week losing to Lee Janzen, but would go on to win the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst before his tragic death in a plane accident later that year. -Darryl
